It's 3:08am and I am exhausted but awake. And my neighbor has the tv blaring. Tonight it's the history channel with a special on WWII. So, basically I'm sleeping in the middle of a war zone. I'm very thankful that is not really where I live and sleep. But right now there is gunfire, bombs, helicopters, sirens, of course the commentator, much talk of Hitler meaning also crowds of people, a mix of Spanish and German, war music,... I'm taking some melatonin and hoping for pleasant dreams or just for my sleepiness to out-win in the fight against noise and sleep. Night, for now, I hope... Oh, now he's flipping channels... Hopefully something calming will prevail... But then it just occurred to me that my roommate is out of town, so I actually have an even better, farther away from the noise option. Happiness!
Seemingly random thoughts about life, beauty, nature, God, the human existence... Things that make me smile, that make me think…Things about which I'm passionate… Things that I'm thinking about, wrestling with...

World War II IN MY ROOM

the farmer and the dell?
It is 1:30am and I should be asleep. My roommate leaves tomorrow on a plane for the US for Christmas and I am driving her to the airport nice and early. And yet I am not asleep. And neither are my neighbors (which in part why I haven't yet hit the hay). Upstairs I keep on hearing a kid's toy play "The Farmer in the Dell" in Spanish of course and accompanied by a 3yr old or so's voice. Now the TV is also on upstairs, or at least I think it's upstairs, and there are also adult voices. At least the little girl is no longer crying. And then next door are two old men talking in deep gruff voices. That is a bit more normal, but it's been awhile since I've heard such a lively night like this. 1:30am in Madrid and time to get some shut-eye.
